So I just broke down and bought the I Phone 4s, after being a die hard blackberry fan, and owning an EVO 4g for a year. It was time, and I was tired of wrestling with Android. IMAP And I Phone Mail Settings

So I pretty much had my I Phone set up, still trying to figure out how to get my Android notes onto my I Phone (since I’m trying not to jailbreak this thing). But more importantly I had set up my email (or so I thought) and was receiving mails fine. I have my email service through my hosting account at GoDaddy, and I just switched to an IMAP server.

All was well until i tried to send an email to a client via my I Phone and found out I was unable to.

Being  a PC repair company owner in West Palm Beach, you know I knew the correct settings. I mean it was working fine on my Android. My mom suggested I take the phone back and get my money back. LOL…. Moms……

I spent the next couple hours entering in my IMAP server information, and researching the settings over and  over, saying to myself I have got to be missing something real simple here. I made sure all my settings were right, and my username and passwords were spelled correctly.

So Finally I Broke Down And Called ATT

If you are struggling to send mail with your hosted IMAP account on your I Phone, don’t worry here is what you are missing. I’m assuming this goes for any hosting provider.

When I got ATT on the phone they were more than happy to inform me that the outgoing IMAP server settings were not to be like all the tutorials online were saying. It was not supposed to be your hosting account IMAP settings, but ATT has their own little server settings exclusive to ATT accounts. Now this struck me as really odd, and I still never got a straight answer from the customer service rep. But here it is for you so you don’t have to go through what i went through.

Once again the criminal minds of our world have struck again, and now have figured and plotted a new scheme to attack Skype users.

I got a Skype call this evening about 5 minutes ago from : NOTIFICATION – REPAIR REQUIRED. Upon accepting the call because I was just that curious, it plays a robotic message as follows: “To activate computer protection and repair your computer got to www.helpwh.com.” If it is not that exact web address it is something similar to that.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR COMPUTER AS FAR AS THIS CALL GOES. BLOCK THE CALLER IMMEDIATELY.

Should I fix my computer or go buy a new computer? Is it worth fixing? Here is a great question! As a tech I get this a lot to say the least. Can’t I get a new one for a couple hundred dollars? All these are questions I hear just about every day with my computer repair West Palm Beach business. All these questions are good questions coming from consumers who are looking to get the most out of their money.

In order to answer that question accurately for you, there are a few things we need to take into consideration and examine. Sometimes the answer is different for the same computer. Here are a few questions we need to answer first.

Should I Fix My Computer Or Buy A New Computer

• What is wrong with the computer
• How much are the repairs
• What are your systems specs
• What programs do you have and do you have the CD for them
• How much is your budget to buy a new one

Should I Fix My Computer?

First off let me say this, spyware removal and virus removal is not usually worth buying a new computer over. If your system is running XP and you have DDR RAM, and anything less than a dual core processor, then this may be the only time I would suggest upgrading because of a virus infection. Otherwise you have to understand you may buy a brand new computer and still have to pay for spyware and virus removal.

For all other repairs $200 or under and your system is running at least 1 or 2 GIGs of DDR2 RAM, dual core processor, and a 120 GIG hard drive then you are still in the “fix  my computer” range. It is going to cost you at least that much and probably more, for a used replacement and you will not have all your personal info, programs, and settings on that.

Or Buy A New Computer?

The next should I fix my computer or buy a new computer question is what is your budget to buy a new computer, and what are you needing it to be able to do for you. We need to establish what you are trully using your computer for. If it is just email, photo sharing, and internet surfing then a replacement is going to be less expensive and maybe worth the upgrade. If you are doing photo editing with Photoshop, design with Illustrator, video editing with Camtasia, or gaming, then this replacement is going to be much more expensive and maybe not worth the upgrade unless you have a budget for it.

If your system is old and you have been having many re occurring issues with it, or you want to do all the following things: upgrade to Windows 7, make it faster by upgrading  RAM, and giving yourself some more hard drive space, then you may be able to get a new comparable computer for the same price. These are typical upgrading options that are available to really max out your computer. Weigh the total cost plus the labor and compare it to a similar computer to see if its worth it.

Build  A Custom Computer

What I always suggest to my compute repair clients is if they want a new computer, then they will get a much better computer if I custom build them one than if they go and get one off the shelf. One thing that really made me upset was when I opened up an Optimized HP gaming system and found cheap parts inside. I could not believe what I was seeing.

It’s My Fault Im Writing This MagicJack Review

Look I understand I have no one to blame. I am not writing this MagicJack review to cry about what I am going through. I am writing this to warn people about what they have to look forward to using this device for anything that even may have the chance of becoming important.

I started my computer repair business with nothing, and I mean nothing. I do all my own marketing and advertising and had no idea how successful I would be at it. I am even providing remote computer repair services now. I had the MagicJack number forwarded to my cell phone. I initially got the number for my gate phone because I needed a 561 number (my cell phone is 954). So I just used that number on my business cards as I started providing computer repair services out of my home office.

So with the new business building and growing, I am putting this number on all my advertising, my website, and my new business cards. My phone started to ring off the hook two months ago and things were starting to take off. One day the worst thing in the world happened, all of a sudden I can not understand any of the calls I am getting on my cell phone. I thought it was my cell phone but then I remembered I had my MagicJack forwarded to it.

To make a long (very long and frustrating) MagicJack review story short, I spent many hours one evening chatting online (because there is no phone support) with 3 different reps going in viscous circles to no where as they continually tried to make it out to be my computer and internet connection (which the device wasnt even plugged in as it was always forwarded – the device sat in my desk drawer from the very beginning).  They did not want to listen and only wanted me to go through this procedure from hell. Then they said it was the device (which was never plugged in and still in my drawer).

The FTC approved the 8.5 billion dollar acquisition of Skype by Microsoft last week. This looks like it may an expansion opportunity for both players Microsoft and Skype. Skype is going to be available on all Microsoft products like Xbox, Kinect, and windows phone. Lync, Outlook, and Xbox Live are all going to be interconnected now. Skype is going to be a new business division within Microsoft. So what is next? Macintosh will buy Facebook? Who knows…but it seems to me that all the fields are playable, and there is no telling what is going to happen next. I do predict that the social GPSplatforms will be next on the list for acquisitions by the big baller software corps. These just take connectivity and inter-operability to another level. I even for see the government getting involved in these types of platforms.

Cyber War

The Pentagon is squirming because they are not necessarily gaining any ground on the battle field called the World Wide Web. With attacks coming at every angle, they are scrambling to plug security holes in the US cyber defenses. The adversary’s are moving faster than we are and more rapidly than our policy makers can respond. As the government is preparing to embrace the technology of “cloud computing” for their cost savings..there are questions about its security. There are still areas of our electrical grid that is not as secure as we would like. Without going into all our weaknesses, it is safe to just say there are still many weaknesses we need to address. Some people are saying the network is too messed up it can’t be secured. It would make sense if you were to consider all the upgrades that would need to have been made over the last few years, and then how many “lights” would have to get turned out to make those upgrades. All we can really do is hold and try to patch the holes as we find them. Hopefully.

Microsoft got dealt a 290 million dollar blow for infringing a small Canadian company’s patent. Noooooo really? I mean is that too hard for us to believe. Microsoft is smart, but do you really think they are that smart? Microsoft argued that the lower standard of proof  ”preponderance of evidence” should be used to determine that the plaintiffs patent is invalid. Didn’t Microsoft know it was only allowed in the Federal Court System when determining how long a convicted criminal should pay for the crime he committed (haha and hearsay of course as well).

Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who wrote the opinion, said the court rejectedMicrosoft’s contention that a defendant need only persuade a jury of a patent’s invalidity by a preponderance of the evidence.

When Congress has prescribed the governing standard of proof, its choice generally controls, she said.

Personally I think Microsoft should stop stealing everyone else’s patents, or at least pay them for them….and of course I also think the Supreme Courts ought to put a higher standard (if not as high a standard) of proof on determining the number of years someone will lose off their life, as they do on whether or not a patent is valid?
